"The secret behind a wrinkle-free forehead"- Botox isn’t Toxic!
"the secret behind a wrinkle free forehead"
Hi babe!
Thanks for checking out our Solange Medical Blog, “In the Injector’s Chair”.
We have created this blog to help debunk the common fables, myths and stereotypes about medical aesthetics, anti-aging, and entrepreneurship in the aesthetic space.
Today in the injector’s chair, we’re busting the myth about Botulinum A Toxin, or what’s commonly known as Botox.
Botox, like Kleenex, is actually a trademark name. Most often in the aesthetic world, we refer to these compounds as “toxins”.
These toxins have grown increasingly popular over the last few years thanks to influencers such as the Kardashian-Jenners, Jennifer Lopez (who still claims she uses olive oil—mmhmmm, we know your secret!), and many others.
Toxins relax the muscles in the face, neck and décolleté area, preventing you from being able to move the muscle effectively. This is why if you go to raise your eyebrows or frown at your toddler because you just stepped on the Lego he’s left all over the floor again, YOU CAN’T.
The muscle relaxation caused by the use of toxin injections helps to prevent the muscle from moving and in turn, contracting. Minimizing muscle contraction prevents the aging wrinkles and lines you see when you make faces in the mirror or smile in photos.
No muscle movement = no muscle contraction = no aging wrinkles! See, it’s easy!
Everyone has different anatomy, metabolisms and muscle strength, which means that not everyone will need the same toxin dosing to treat an area.
For example, if I am very active with very noticeable forehead wrinkles, I will require more toxin to relax the muscle than my friend who is less active and has virtually no lines at all. Because I am more active,
I’m constantly burning calories and my metabolism is higher, which means I may also require more frequent toxin treatments.
What does metabolism have to do with toxin injections, Nurse Jenn?
Great question!
Toxins are metabolized out of the body! This means your body naturally breaks down the toxins every day until the movement is restored in the muscle and those pesky wrinkles return.
Toxins generally only last about 3–4 months, unless you’re an avid gym-goer (then 2–3 months is better, to be safe).
Once you start to notice movement in the muscle, then you know it’s time to return for a top-up treatment.
But I don’t want to be frozen! I don’t want to look swollen!
This is a myth. Although toxin might cause very minimal post-injection bumps and bruising, toxin doesn’t generally cause your face to be swollen like some of the “bad celebrity Botox” photos you see in magazines.
Those cases are generally a combination of multiple things going wrong at once, including surgical interventions.
You can choose to still have some movement in your muscles if you wish. This is best discussed during the consultation with your injector. Your body, your choice! We’re just here to help!
Nurse Jenn, how old do I need to be to start toxin? I thought that was something only my grandma did?
NO! MYTH! STOP RIGHT THERE!
You can and should be starting as early as in your 20s. As soon as you start to see those static (resting) or expressive lines appear on your face, YOU KNOW IT’S TIME!
Preventative toxin treatments are HUGE. They are EVERYTHING! And I’m not just saying that because I’m an experienced nurse injector and business owner—I’m saying it because it’s TRUE!
Gone are the days of hiding aesthetic treatments. We are breaking down walls and kicking stereotypes in the you know what!
Preventative toxin is on the rise. The best wrinkles are the ones you never get, babe! Trust me. Once they are present, you can’t easily go back. So get a head start on it while you can!
As a nurse injector, one of the most common questions I get asked from my clients is: Can I just treat this one area?
The quick answer is, sure you can! But do you really want to?
Let me explain. Almost all of your facial muscles are connected. They overlap or connect via ligaments that pull on one another when we smile, frown or make other expressions.
So if we relax only one area, this can cause another area to overcompensate and overwork. This area then becomes stronger, causing more static and expressive lines/wrinkles later on.
So yes, you can treat just one area, if you are ok with possibly getting worse wrinkles in other areas… Be my GUEST!
Moral of the story, babe: do your homework, ask the questions, and in turn, LOVE your results!
Stay tuned for another blog post soon!
